Lokanarkavu Temple


Lokanarkavu temple is located at Memunda within 4 kms from Vadakara and 20 km away from south side of Mahe. It is 1500 years old temple. The main deity of this temple is Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Durga. It holds many attractive sculptures and paintings in it. The wall paintings and fascinating drawings and rock cut caves can be seen it this temple.
The renowned martial hero Thacholi Othenam was the sincere devotee of the Goddess Lokanarkavil Amma. He had the habit of getting blessing from the Goddess before appearing for any contest or to perform any programs. Still now the Kalaripayattu artists get her blessing before doing any performance.

Festivals in Lokanarkavu Temple

The major annual festival of this temple celebrated at Lokanarkavu temple is Pooram festival. It is celebrated in grand manner. It is celebrated during the March month for one week. During this festival many cultural events take place like Thacholikali and folk dance which displays the traditional form of Kerala. Other major festival celebrated in this temple is Mandala Utsavam or Mandalavilakku festival. It is celebrated during Vrischikam in the Malayalam month of Meenam.  It is celebrated for 41 days with lot of happiness.
