Kunjali Marakkar residence is known for the abode of Kottakal Kunjali Marakkar. He is one of the best heroes in Kerala history. It is an ordinary old building constructed with laterite stone and covered with roof. It covers an area of about 19 cents. In 16th century it was destroyed by the Portuguese. The architecture and wood works are unique, very strong and huge.  In 1976 the monument was protected by the archaeology department.

About Kunjali Marakkar

Kunjali Marakkar is said to be one of the famous and brilliant rulers in the history of Malabar. He allowed Zamorin to construct the fort at Pudupattanam. This fort is called as Marakkar Kotta and now it is prominently called as Kottakkal. This fort was constructed in the southern bank of Moorad River.  In 1600 AD his follower Kunjali Marakkar IV was defeated by the Portuguese and Zamorins. After defeating him the Portuguese did more horrible things like they bought his head and kept on the post to display to people. Kunjali Marakkar’s residence holds the sword, clothes, cannon used by the Kunjali Marakkar.
