Kozhikode

Kozhikode is commonly called as Calicut. It is one of the significant and picturesque towns in North Kerala.  The name Kozhikode is taken from the Malayalam word which means “crowing of a cock”.  The place around Kozhikode was ruled by the Zamorin rulers who traded with other merchants in Asia. In 1498 Vasco Da Gama the Portuguese explorer landed at Kappad beach which is located close to the Kozhikode. After the arrival of the British this place became famous for trading and was renamed as Calicut. The name Calicut refers to as the varieties of different checked clothes called Calico which is the famous export thing.

Kozhikode is one of the popular tourist destinations in Kerala. It has many picnic spots in it. The famous attractive tourist spot in Kozhikode is Kozhikode backwaters. And other attractive places like beaches, waterfalls, sanctuary, historic places, museum, river, religion places, lakes, rivers, etc. It has several high level institutions which offer good studies to students.
