Hill Palace Tripunithura

Hill Palace is the largest and oldest museum in Kerala. It is located close to Tripunithura and 12 km away from the Ernakulam. It was constructed in the year 1865 under the control Kochi Rajas. Once it is used as the official place by the Kochi royal families. It covers an area about 54 acres and it has 49 buildings in it. It is constructed in the traditional architecture method.

It is famous for the precious collection Cochin royal family. It holds traditional museum, a deep park, children’s park, archaeological museum, a pre historic park inside it. This museum is covered with beautiful plants and rare medicinal value plants. The 1st building in the Palace is constructed in the Ettukettu model. In 1980 it went under the control of Kerala archaeological department. And it was opened for the public view from the year 1986. Currently this Palace is being used as museum which attracts lot of tourist every year.

In this museum you can able to view 14 types of exhibit like statues made up of stone and plaster of Paris, wall paintings, carving works, manuscript, paintings, inscription etc. Most of the collections in the museum are offered by the Cochin royal family. And some other collections offered from Paliam Devaswom, Travancore royal family and from the archaeology department.

In the museum you can see the precious gold crown fixed with the precious stones and Simhasana of the Cochin Raja. And it has some gold coins, samples of epigraphy, valuable coins, majestic beds, and precious ornaments etc. And it has antique collections like more than 200 types of ancient Pottery; ceramic vases of china and Japan, granite, rock cut weapons used during Stone Age, hood stone, wooden temple models, Kudakkallu, menhirs, and plaster cast models things belong to Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro of the Indus valley civilization, and some rare collections of silver and bronze coins which belongs to 14th to 16th century and Laterite memorials. This place is also used as centre for Heritage studies (CHS) which offers training and autonomous research institute by the government. Now CHS is elected as Manuscript Resource centre and Manuscript Conservation centre by the National Mission for Manuscripts.

Nearest airport to hill Palace is Cochin international airport located within 30 kms from the city. And Nadumbassery international airport located near Aluva within 22 km from Ernakulam. Nearest railway station is Ernakulam central railway station located within 10 km. And Tripunithura railway station. Buses are operated from the Ernakulam bus stop, Tripunithura bus stop, and from KSRTC central bus stop. Roads in Hill Palace are well connected with other places of the city. So you can easily reach to this place. This museum offers you to do horse riding also. It is the one of the best tourist destination to know about the ancient treasures.

Hill Palace Tripunithura visiting time

It is open from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and 2.00 pm to 4.30 pm. The entry fees collected in the Museum for adult is Rs 10 and for children Rs 5. It iskept opened on all days except Monday.
